Uk leaving the European Union has been one of the biggest political scandals in the past few years. It came as a shock to the world because until now, Europe has always been perceived to be a relatively stable region. This new change sent a wave of fear and excitement around the world as people talked and discussed the legitimacy of this decision. The kingdom received harsh criticism from the rest of the EU highlighting the difficulties of being transient around Europe especially for business and traveling artists. Many blamed the nationalist and older generation for making a hasty decision without taking into consideration how they will affect the younger generations for decades to come. Londoners even went as far as to suggest splitting from the rest of the UK.

Of course, as someone who is constantly attracting chaos in my life, I happened to be living in London as the Brexit deal was getting finalized and I was lucky enough to attend a Brexit leaving party ;)

Now let’s take a look at some of the reasons why the UK has decided to officially break up with the EU.

First things first, the UK is a capitalist society, and business is an important component of the country so it is only natural big decisions will be based on economic outcomes. Second, compared to many EU countries, the UK is one of the most powerful and they know that they put the weight for many underperforming European countries (ahem Greece ahem). Third, the future as we know it will not belong to Europe. What do I mean by that?

The developing countries are huge and with a young population that will be put to work very very soon. Countries like India, China, UAE, and brazil are already making major headway in developing their respective industries and working on their politics. Following them is Africa. Africa has been at the center of many developments and growth conversations with equal access to an abundant young workforce and very rich resources.

Follow by the MENA region. MENA is growing and despite all the political instability, it is growing fast. It is not the type of news that you would find on the media about the middle east. I mean why would they even want to you that 66% of the population is made up of people under the age of 25 and why would they want you to know that these young people are skilled and eager. They want the region to remain known as a war-ravaged black hole and while it has been, it will not be like this forever. It will grow, it will prosper, and it will be the future.

The UK was smart enough to realize this. With Europe’s aging population and very mature economies, they knew that the future money will be coming mostly out of Asia and Africa. So they cut the cord and ran because why would they want to continue to pull the weight of the slowest growing continent. Granted, this is not to say that they had to pull the weight for all Europe as they have other robust economics in countries like Germany, France, and Switzerland. So maybe Brexit was a decision based on some nationalism and maybe it was rushed and poorly planned, but it was not made in short sight.
